Dr Nick Smith is a Senior Scientist at Plant & Food Research, an Associate Investigator of the Riddet Institute, and an Honourary Research Associate of Massey University. He holds degrees in mathematics and in nutritional science from Swansea University (UK) and Massey University.

 

His expertise is in mathematical modelling of complex systems, with particular focus on human nutrition. He studies the dynamics of global and national food systems and their impact on the nutrition of the populations and broader sustainability goals. His Riddet Institute role involves leadership in the Kai anamata mō Aotearoa Research Programme, a 5-year project building a computational model for studying the future of the New Zealand food system
